We did a walkabout on the estate and we have contacted City West Homes about the following issues;
- The issue of anti-social behaviour and drug use in stairwells came up in Chippendale House, there was a distinct smell of drugs in the lifts and litter in the stairwells. One resident reported that some plant pots had been thrown from the balcony after dark and that the police had attended but not had a strong enough presence on foot often enough to reassure residents.
- There was also concern about groups congregating in stairwells in Lutyens House and drug use. In both houses there was concern about noise from the Football pitch between Lutyens and Chippendale at night. There is support for the pitch especially for the younger children but residents told us that there are no toilet facilities so late at night and some young people are using the entrances to Chippendale, opposite the pitch to urinate in, as well as the issue of noise when leaving the pitch after 8pm.
City West Homes tell us;
I was disturbed to read about the issue of individuals urinating in block entrances and also plant pots being thrown balconies. The estate office have had no reports of this from residents, however, I have asked them to send a letter to all residents reminding them that should any of this kind of behaviour be occurring on the estate that they should report it immediately. In line with the observations made by residents, we have had reports of youths congregating in and around Lutyens House during the day. We have liaised with the Safer Neighbourhood Team on this and along with them, we will be monitoring this area closely
