Churchill Labour Councillor welcomes Conference vote on estate ballots

Churchill Labour Councillor Jason Williams has welcomed the Labour Party Conference decision to back a motion for ballots on estate regeneration schemes.

Speaking at the Labour Conference in Brighton, Councillor Williams said: “This sends a very clear message that councils need to be accountable to residents on any regeneration plan and that any final scheme must be agreed by a referendum before they can go ahead.”

Westminster Tories are refusing to have a referendum on plans for Ebury Bridge Estate, despite a vote in favour of a failed scheme in 2013. Councillor Williams said “Residents need clarity on the future of the estate and it’s vital that the community there are at the heart of any plans.”
