Cllr Jason Williams recently met the Save Newson’s Timber Yard campaign team and apprentices in South Belgravia, to discuss the upcoming case and the Labour Councillors’ continued support of the Pimlico Road Timber Yard.
Churchill Labour Councillors Shamim Talukder and Jason Williams supported the Timber Yard in their campaign against the planning application last year.
Westminster City Council’s Planning Committee ignored over 330 objections from residents, the Belgravia Society, the Belgravia Residents Association, the Pimlico Road Association and other local businesses, and voted 3-1 to demolish Newson’s Timber Yard to build four retail units and seven luxury houses. As he rejected residents’ appeals, the committee Chair, Tory Deputy Leader Cllr Robert Davies, said the committee “was not The X Factor”.
Newson’s Timber Yard on Pimlico Road has been a functioning timber yard for over 175 years, supplying local businesses including the annual Chelsea Flower Show.
The judicial review for the application will be heard at the end of October 2017.
